Fier is a city in central Albania. It has 55,845 inhabitants (as of 2011) and is one of the ten largest cities in the country. National traffic arteries in the form of railroad lines and roads or highways intersect here. As the largest city in the agriculturally used Myzeqe Plain – one of the most fertile areas in Albania – Fier is a transshipment point for a wide range of agricultural and livestock products and thus also plays an important role in the primary sector of Albania’s economy.
